LITERARY PROSE

The Glue That Holds Filipinos Together

Years, decades, centuries, and millenniums had passed, cultures and tribes around the archipelago interacted, and languages and dialects formed and changed as time flowed. It's truly astonishing how Filipino culture and language have become so rich and unique. It has become a blend of traditions and original Filipino culture while including influences by others that have played a significant role in shaping the way our language is today.

As we step foot into August—the month where we celebrate the Filipino language—we recognize the efforts of our ancestors and national heroes to put their blood, sweat, and tears into our culture to be preserved and be taught to younger generations. We celebrate not only to recognize but also to put effort into preserving and enriching our language and culture. As we transition into the modern world, languages and cultures are dying left and right due to globalization. The "Buwan ng Wika" was made to prevent every language and dialect from our country from eradication.

Our language is our identity; we must love and patronize our language, our culture, and our country, as they are who we are and an undeniable part of our existence. Just like our national hero Joze Rizal said, “Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang isda.”-top: 45px;">
